Bullplop... is just a way for me to share the bullsh!t of my life with friends and strangers. I don't know why strangers would read this sh!t, but if they do, I hope they think it's funny. It's mostly about me, the lakers, bikerides, and the funny adventures that "plop" into my lap.

I wanted to post something about the Aretha Franklin concert we went to on sunday. First, yes, she can still sing even though she's 65. She was wearing a cast on her foot and said a little about going to see the doctor in LA, but never mentioned how she hurt it and even tried to dance a little bit. She was also wearing a mumu the size of a termite tent.. OK not that big, but she's a big woman. It doesn't seem to bother her a bit. At work someone was saying that if they had all that money, they'd get a personal trainer to keep them in shape. I don't think she cares. In her program she actually had a few recipes.. one for Aretha's "le bomb" meatloaf, and another for "it won't last long" peach cobbler. toward the end of the show, she thanked management, and her band, and threw in a special shout out to the buffet. I think the woman likes to eat. I got the tickets from someone at work who won them and didn't want to go. As soon as I got them, I started thinking about how I'd hear her sing "sock it to me, sockittome, sockittome" since that's the favorite part of her best known song. Of course, she sang Respect. she opened with it, and as I listened, i thought about how cool it must be to be Aretha Franklin. Not just because she's immensely talented, rich, and famous... beyond that. What's she known for? If you know anything about aretha, it's respect. Kids all over the world learned how to spell respect thanks to her song. and it's a song that sounds like it was written because of her frustration.. that she wasn't getting the respect she deserved and by funneling that energy into such a catchy song has made her a musical icon, and a symbol of strength and respect for others. what a great life!

John David Booty lead the Trojans to a 28-10 victory on Saturday. It can't be easy to follow up not one, but two Heisman winning quarterbacks. In his 2 games he's played well- 6 TDs and 0 INT. Not a bad start. We'll see how he develops throughout this year and the next.
He's already got creating way funnier signs at games than Leinart or Palmer ever did. During last night's game they showed a group of guys with B O O T Y painted across their chests. I guess we should be glad it was on their chests.
It really is a great time of the year. I'm home watching the USC home opener. This time of year every team's still a contender, we're still curious who will be good.. and it's still too soon to give up on anyone. This is the Trojan's first test- we're at home against Nebraska, I've got food on the way, a lot of cold beer, and a quarterback who's name is Booty. Seriously. ABC just ran a clip of our old quarterback Matt Leinart saying "I'd like to introduce the new quarterback, John David Booty" then started the Yin Yang Twins' song that goes "booty booty booty booty rockin everywhere, rockin everywhere." It's recorded and waiting for me in High Def, it's beautiful out, and it's going to be a great game. I've been teaching podcasting all day and plan on fully enjoying the rest of the weekend. (I'm actually going to an Aretha Franklin concert tomorrow night. ) Go Trojans.
So the folks at Chevy decided to have a little contest- and they thought they'd open it up to the public. They did what they did on the Apprentice. They put up video clips, audio, and let the people come up with the ad for them. The results were not what they were expecting. Check out the Nightline piece on it here to see the full story. Below is one of dozens of the funny entries they got instead.
You can find a lot more like this here on you tube. It's an interesting story that I've been following for the past few weeks. The trend on the internet is to have users creating the content, and what worked for wikipedia hasn't necessaring worked for chevy. Here's the Chevy blog that addresses the ensuing controversy.
I spent a whole lunch hour one day cracking up laughing through the different spoofs of the Tahoe commercials. Hope you enjoy them, too.
I learn all kinds of good things from my buddy Robin. The latest is a group called The Flight of the Conchords, a couple guys from New Zealand group who does funny songs. He turned me on to this site that has some of their videos. I'm checking them all out, but my favorite so far is the one called "hiphopapotamus vs. rhymenocerous".

u cant touch this

The other morning I saw a small stopsign with a sticker that said "Hammer Time," so the boring sign no longer said "stop", but "stop, hammertime. "
It hit me so funny that I laughed about it all day. It hit me funny for a couple days, actually. I told people about it again today, two days later and for some reason decided to google for 'stop hammer time' and found that there are a lot of photos on flickr tagged with "hammertime."
It's amazing that there's a group of people doing this, taking pictures and tagging them with hammertime. the way some people (like me) decide to spend their time.
While killing time during some software installs I came across this video of a chimp playing Ms. Pac Man. Amazing for a number of reasons... the chimp is good enough at Ms Pacman to clear a level, that the broadcast is in English and Japanese, that the primatologist was even able to get the grant to teach a chimp to play videogames.
Yesterday I went looking for the preview of the Borat Movie: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan and was reminded of just how cool youtube is. There were hundreds of video clips of my main man Borat, including this shocking interview with Conan O'Brian. Without watching this clip I'd never know how much he likes Queen Latifah.
I've been looking forward to July 4th for nearly a year. Our rooftop'll have a great view of all the fireworks tonight, and our friends are coming over for BBQ, potato salad, and the show.
From what I hear the bay will be packed all day today. Aside from the nightmare of parking, I'm looking forward to seeing all the people flood the beaches. It's ten in the morning, and I can already hear the party from the beach. Let the fun begin!
Things are already heating up, yesterday I saw a guy rollerblading around wearing nothing but a g-string and a paper mache watermelon head. He had painted a hot dog one one butt cheek and a flag on the other. My favorite was when he made his butt dance for everyone in the restaurant where we were eating.
Even though it's only ten in the morning, I can already hear people partying at the beach. woo hoo! Bring on the fun!

Heather's friends, Sarah and Drew, are on their first trip to California to celebrate Sarah's graduation. Later this afternoon, we're celebrating by getting in a minivan and going up to Yosemite for 3 days of backpacking. We drive up today, then hike Tues, Wed, Thurs, in Ansel Adam's favorite spot. Somewhere atop a trail in Yosemite, I'm planning on asking Heather to marry me. wow. I know she's got a ring in mind, so I won't even bother trying to pick one out. Instead, I've got a bracelet for her to wear as I tell her how I feel. I've wanted to ask her since only a few weeks after we met, but have tried to go slow. Now it's been a year and a half and I couldn't imagine my life without her. I think our big moment will happen after the second day of backpacking - at the top of Yosemite. After 48 hours of hiking and 0 hours of showering, I'm sure she'll be taken by surprise. I can't wait to see the look on her face. From yosemite we go to calistoga to tour the wineries. We'll ditch the minivan for bicycles and ride from one tasting to the next. Hopefully we'll all be in a good mood. We'll be back in SD by Saturday.
