I claim my DVR as writeoff come tax season. I feel that given what I do it really is justified. I could show them the plans I'm currently writing for a video training course available on demand for The Learning Center, or talk to them about how my business relies on new technology as it becomes significant. For anyone who's made the switch to tivo or DVR, you understand how radically it affects the way you watch tv.
shows are always there. you watch exactly what you want when you want it, and can easily capture anything coming down the pipe. this is especially great for sports.
I've been working on a site redesign at my other site, and as I finished up for bed the Lakers were looking pathetic during the first half of a home game against the Raptors. I fired it up again this morning (instead of going to work.. he he) and answered emails- watching to see if the team could turn it around. Kobe scored 27 points in the third and slowly the game stopped being about the Raptors versus the Lakers, but Kobe against the clock and against himself.
according to the la times
"In 15 games since Dec. 20, Bryant has hit 80 points once, 60 once, 50 twice, 40 four times and 30 five times. He's averaging 43.3 points over that span and shooting 46.6% and 37% on three-pointers. He's also got 4.0 assists, and tonight he had steals and boards, too. It really was amazing.
In the end, he blew past the 72 point franchise record, then stepped to the line with 76 for three free throws that would put him ahead of wilt's second greatest score of 78. He sank all three for 79 points, then put in two more to top 80. finishing with 81.
I'm a big fan of Google's Video search, they're doing a lot of interesting things, allowing anyone to upload and charge to watch videos, indexing all those great forwards we get in our email so they're available on any machine, and now they're even putting entire NBA games on google to watch 24 hours after they happen. For someone like me, that's a terrific way to spend $3. The Chinese kids that do the backstreet boys, the farting preacher, the little boy in the blue cross ad, and so on. They've added a feature that generates code for you, which embeds the file right on your page. This is a very good thing for the blogosphere. I hope you enjoy watching this video... white boy's got some moves!
I went out on the patio off our second floor bedroom, and lo and behold there was a guy in a cherry picker hanging out there, having a cigarette. Thursday is my day to work from home in the mornings, and I was really surprised to see someone at eye level. We talked for a while, then went on our way.

Today I have an enhanced podcast posted. It's something I learned about in a class on educational podcasting... my instructor said that podcasts might be a lot like pancakes- you just expect to throw the first one away. Rather than throw it away, i thought I'd put together a test run and post it up on this site.

UPDATE: Don't expect anything but a strangely formatted text file from this link. damn, shit, balls.
I have only found a way to make an enhanced podcast, I was assuming .m4a files are viewable in a web browser. It's late, I'm tired, and am off to toastmasters early tomorrow morning. (starts at 7 AM, yuck) I thought I could link it like I did with an .mp3 file and I'd be golden. turns out this pancake may be headed for the trash afterall.
Another UPDATE: I've converted the .m4a file into a .mov so you can watch it.
It's so nice to know there's a bike ride as soon as you wake up. I woke up at 5:30, poking my head up "is it time yet?" but it wasn't. I laid there dreaming of Santee Lakes. It's a nice out-N-back with a great section of switchbacks just before you turn around... gives you enough time to warm up, then really attack them, rest, hit them again, then work your way back. I just love it It's like I'm coming down with Bike Fever. It's been a while since I've had it, and what's best is that I've got two riding partners that have come down with it too. I'll throw up a phone picture from the ride.
No one outside of Texas was expecting them to lose. They had a 34 game win streak and 2 Heisman winners on the same field for the first time ever. It was supposed to be a Hollywood ending for the boys from Tinseltown, but it wasn't. As Vince Young sprinted into the endzone on 4th and long to upset the Trojans, I yelled out "Welcome to Reality, boys." If college is about preparing you for life, how could going 38-1 get you ready for the times that just aren't fair? The ball won't always bounce the right way. You should learn humility and grace under defeat before you head out into the real world. As sad as I was to see the team stumble to the last step toward a historical run, I think it makes real winners out of them. They now have the opportunity to press on. To accept a loss, and play for a win. To not give up when things seem bad. Sometimes it will be 4th and 9 that wins the game (like that classic Notre Dame game) other times you'll be on the wrong end of it and you'll have to head across the field with a lump in your throat to congratulate the other team on a win. Either way, I hope the Trojans stay hungry and humble. Greatness is more than the way you perform on the field. Fight On!
